If your hay pile is looking like it might not stretch until spring, or if you have hay to sell, check out the Hay Hotline located on Western Sustainability Exchange’s new Mountain West Grazing Connection website. Maybe you’re looking ahead to green grass and thinking you might need to lease some pasture this summer or that you might sell some cows while the prices are on fire and you have some grass to lease out. Mountain West Grazing Connection is the place to go for pasture leases too! These two new FREE resources are actually two old resources brought back to life and tied into one site to help ranchers with all their forage needs and opportunities.
The Hay Hotline was previously housed with the Montana Department of Agriculture but has been inactive for a few years. Likewise, Montana State University developed a grass leasing site to help ranchers who had extra pasture connect with those who needed seasonal feed for their livestock. This site has also been inactive for a few years.
With their blessings and encouragement, WSE has combined the two resources at https://mountainwestgrazing.com/.
This is an excellent opportunity to advertise or seek forage for all your livestock needs. Posting is not limited to Montana, so share this resource with producers outside the state as well. Posting is free; the more people who utilize this resource, the better it will become. The goal is to become the one-stop site for all your forage needs, but right now, because it is brand new, we need listings!
Watch in the coming weeks for an additional resource on this site to serve producers struck by disaster. The Department of Emergency Services (DES) has teamed up with WSE to create a Donations page within the site that will link people who want to donate hay to those who need it most. This is more complicated than it sounds because many volunteers, organizations and agencies come together when disaster strikes, but this page will be ready when it’s needed to assist donors, producers, and organizers.
