We have more exciting news to share! Our Montana Grasslands Carbon Initiative is featured in Outside Magazine.
What if there was a strategy that pulled carbon dioxide out of the air, protected wildlife habitat and water quality, improved soil health, and increased the economic viability of a ranch family to stay on their land? Our Montana Grasslands Carbon Initiative does just that.
Healthy grasslands are now recognized as a possible solution to climate change because of their ability to pull harmful carbon dioxide from the air and safely store it in the soil.
Grasslands comprise over 40% of the earth’s surface, if they are restored to health through regenerative agricultural practices, scientists believe we can begin to reverse climate change. Some estimates say American aglands could capture as much as a billion tons of greenhouse gas a year—enough to offset the entire country’s emissions.
WSE is collaborating with ranchers and carbon project developer, NativeEnergy, so producers can financially benefit from using regenerative practices through the growing market for carbon . Annual carbon offset payments coupled with more productive land which results from these practices help reduce operating costs and increase ranch profitability. These practices also protect soil, water, and wildlife.
Through your support, WSE’s programs have helped over 1,300 ranchers use regenerative practices on more than 1.5 million acres in Montana. With your help we will meet our goal of 2 million acres by 2025.
